New Binibining Pilipinas Queens Named

A sought after model, a TV personality and a Darkhorse were named Binibining Pilipinas 2010 in a glittering coronation night held March 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.


Krista Arrieta Kleiner (Candidate #11), 20,was named Bb. Pilipinas International. Sought after model Maria Venus Raj (Candidate#10), 21, was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Universe. Completing the three queens was Czarina Gatbonton (Candidate #21), 19, who was announced Bb. Pilipinas World. Completing the top 5 were Helen Nicolette Henson (Candidate #18), 2nd Runner-Up; and Dianne Necio (Candidate #22), 1st Runner-Up.

Completing the Top 10 were Mariella Castillo (Candidate #1), Gwendoline Ruais (Candidate #13), Kate Princess Alimurong (Candidate #19), Rose Ann Aguilar (Candidate #17), and Mary Ann Ross Misa (Candidate #14).

Televised by GMA 7, the pageant started with all 24 candidates clad in almost identical evening gowns dancing to Lady Gaga's hit song "Paparazzi" to the delight of the crowd in the Araneta Coliseum which incidentally is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Special Awards were also given to different candidates in the course of the show that culminated with the crowing of the three new queens.

Special guest performers during the coronation night were GMA Network heartthrobs Akihiro Sato, Victor Aliwalas, and Daniel Matsunaga. Serenading the Top 10 was lead singer of the American band Journey and Filipino pride Arnel Pineda. The event was hosted by Dingdong Dantes and Carla Abellana.

Araneta Center's Annual Parade Showcase Bb. Pilipinas Beauties

The streets surrounding the Araneta Center once again burst into festive revelry as the 24 lovely official candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2010 waved to the cheering crowd during the premier lifestyle hub's annual Parade of Beauties. The event coincides with the Araneta Coliseum's 50th Anniversary--the pageant's venue for the highly anticipated Coronation Night on March 6.


Clad in chic gold-hued swimwear, the candidates toured the Center onboard sporty Mazda Miata cars. Reigning queens Pamela Bianca Manalo (2009 Bb. Pilipinas Universe), Melody Gersbach (2009 Bb. Pilipinas International) and Marie Ann Umali (2009 Bb. Pilipinas World) looked regal atop a Greek-inspired float. the Philippine Navy and Marine Drum and Bugle bands provided the lively accompaniment, while drum beaters, poi dancers, mimes, fire eaters, and other street performers wowed spectators lined up along the streets of Araneta Center. Motorcycle riders of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Dairy Queen added to the festive mood.


The annual parade is the penultimate activity for the candidates before they go through the final stage of the competition to clinch the three major pageant titles. The annual Binibining Pilipinas pageant is the major fundraising project of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), which for the last 46 years continues to bring the message of hope and love across the nation. BPCI is the official fanchise holder of the Miss International, Miss Universe, and Miss World beauty pageants. True to BPCI's mission, the young ladies involved with Binibining Pilipinas show that real beauty lies within, as they pursue projects that help improve the lives of the underprivileged members of society.


With this year's batch of the country's loveliest young ladies as official candidates, Binibining Pilipinas continues to carry on not only its heritage of producing world-class winners, but also serving as the gateway to many meaningful opportunities to prove that real beauty is truly beyond skin deep.


The parade was also graced by the winners of the 2010 Mr. World Philippines Pageant headed by Alvin De Joya (Mr. World Philippines 2010) along with Jericho Intacto (1st Runner-Up) and Jason Villegas (2nd Runner-Up).

Pre-Pageant Night to Determine Top 10 Held; Text Voting Starts



February 26--filmed at the studio of GMA 7 in Quezon City, the 24 candidates competed against each other for a spot in the Top 10 of the 2010 Bb. Pilipinas Pageant through the Pre-Pageant night where they paraded in swimsuits and evening gowns. The preliminary competitions were televised February 28.

With the background music of a rearranged version of "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas, the gorgeous candidates opened the show by parading in their chosen Philippine Terno created for them by various designers.

After introducing themselves to the public, host Drew Arellano announced the winner of the Best in Philippine Terno which was judged prior to the start of the show. Venus Raj, Candidate #10 won this title garbed in an immaculate white fishtail cut terno with floral accents and fringes designed by Ariel Alvarez.

The Swimsuit Competition followed where each candidate walked the runway in their sexy metallic dark silver two-piece bikinis. After video segments of their activities, the candidates again walked the stage this time in their red or pink gowns from Cumbia.

At the end of the show, three candidates won special awards--Krista Kleiner, Candidate #11-Miss Talent; and both Venus Raj (Candidate #10) and Kate Princess Alimurong (Candidate #19) were announced Miss Friendship.


A select panel of judges viewed the candidates and will determine the Top 10. They were GMA executives Wilma Galvante and Mike Enriquez, Basketball star Gabe Norwood, and actress Claudine Barretto.
Serenading the candidates were Kris Lawrence, AJ Tabaldo, and Jay-R. Hosting the event were Drew Arellano, Jay-R and Rhian Ramos.

The public was also informed that they can now start voting for their favorite candidate through text. To vote, simply type bb(space)(number of candidate) (Example: bb 6) and send to 367 for Smart and Talk N'Text Subscribers; or to 2344 for Globe, TM and Sun subrscribers. PhP 2.00 for Sun while PhP 2.50 for other networks to vote.

Official Headshots Unveiled in Exhibit


The official headshots of the 24 candidates of the 2010 Binibining Pilipinas Pageant were unveiled recently through an exhibit on the second floor of the Gateway Mall in the Araneta Center complex.
The photos, taken by Binibining Pilipinas official photographer Raymond Saldana, will be on display until the coronation night of the pageant on March 6. It is also a good vehicle for shoppers to view how the candidate looks to help them choose their favorites.
Shoppers who have accumulated a minimum of PhP 100 purchase from any establishment in the Araneta Center are entitled to vote for the Shoppers' Choice Award.

Candidates Showcase Catwalk Skills in Fashion Show




The 24 Candidates in this year's pageant stomped to showcase their catwalk skills at the fashion show held February 20 at the Gateway Mall of the Araneta Center.


The fashion show, which also featured the reigning queens Melody Gersbach (Bb. Pilipinas-International 2009), Marie Ann Umali (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2009) and Pamela Bianca Manalo (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2009) was a showcase of cocktail dresses and evening gowns by Cumbia.


Also in attendance of the fashion show this year are candidates to the 2010 Mr. World Philippines of which BPCI is the franchise holder.




24 Official Candidates Formally Presented to the Press



The 24 official candidates were formally presented to the media and pageant sponsors last February 18 at the Sunset Pavilion of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, officially signaling the start of the 2010 Bb. Pilipinas Pageant.


Clad in identical swimsuits, each candidate introduced herself to the audience and paraded in the pavilion before having photo-ops at the poolside of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, and at the Spiral Restaurant along with the reigning queens and the Sofitel Management.

Candidates Meet and Greet Fans



The 24 Official Candidates had a meet and greet day for their supporters and shoppers at the Araneta Center last February 14.


Clad in red Bb. Pilipinas tank tops, the 24 captivating ladies were introduced to the shoppers at the Activity Center of the Ali Mall and later, at the South Gate of the Araneta Coliseum.

The 24 ladies are competing for the three major titles: Binibining Pilipinas-Universe, Binibining Pilipinas-World, and Binibining Pilipinas-International.
The 2010 Bb. Pilipinas Coronation night is slated on March 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.
